DNS is often used in applications that are connected to the internet such as web browsers or e-mail, which can help map the DNS host name of a computer to the IP Address. In addition to use on the internet, DNS can also be implemented to the private network or intranet.

Here is How Google's DNS Settings on Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

After learning what is DNS, then just go ahead we do google dns setting in linux using the terminal like the steps below :

• Our first step is to open the first terminal that will be used by pressing keyboard keys CTRL + ALT + T.
• It will pop up a terminal. The type command in the terminal as shown in the picture below or copy and paste the following command into the terminal.

sudo gedit /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf

• A new tab will appear next : gedit for dhclient.conf. Search the writtings of #prepend domain-name-servers 127.0.0.1;. If you've been to replace 127.0.0.1 with 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 and uncheck fence. And then save. For more details see the image as below.

• If you've done it all. Now check your connection information as below. Note the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS specified on the image.
